Critical response was mixed: some critics praised the comedic aspects of the film and the vocal performances of Bullock and Hamm, while also felt that the title characters were not able to carry the film on their own, and that the villains were flatly characterized. It was first foreshadowed in the end credits where Kevin, Stuart, and Bob, three of the Minions, are seen auditioning for the film. 8/12/2023 0 Comments Comparing shatter nail polish![]() I spent a good hour and numerous cotton balls trying to get the polish off properly the other night but I think the pretty nails I had up until that point were worth the effort. You might see a difference in how 5-year-olds play compared to toddlers and even younger preschoolers. I have to use an acetone remover and soak my nail in it and then try and rub the polish off. The only problem with these nails is that they are a major pain to take off as are most glitter polishes. These are what I would call fun and happy nails! The combination of the gold and the multi coloured glitter is so reminiscent of wrapping paper and christmas decorations to me and it’s the kind of manicure that makes you smile when you look at your nails. I love this combination and I love Happy Birthday! It’s such a festive nail polish regardless of what you’re celebrating. Most people would probably go for a red or a green but Christmas is linked with gold in my mind so that’s why my perfect Christmas nail had to start with 2 coats of OPI Glitzerland.Īnd to top it off nothing else would do but Deborah Lippmann’s Happy Birthday. I love changing my nails and makeup to suit the occassion so seeing as Christmas is only 2 days away I’ve come up with my perfect christmas nails. ![]() What do you think of OPI Black Shatter? Can you see yourself rocking this look on your nails or will you be passing? It’s perfect for a 90’s themed party though and it definitely makes me feel nostalgic when I wear it and reminds me of simpler times of slap bands and elastics and cross colours. I’ll probably end up using it once every blue moon but it’s definitely not a must have for me. ![]() I think that this polish is okay but it’s definitely a trend polish so if you’re not a big nailpolish fanatic or if you don’t love the look then I say skip it because you probably won’t get much use out of it. Based on pictures I’ve seen, I have to say that I prefer the shatter pattern that results from the OPI more than the others because it looks like a more organic pattern if that makes sense. The Barry M seems to shatter into more rectangular shards and the BYS is a more subtle shatter pattern that is also available in different colours. This is the only shatter polish I’ve tried so I don’t know how it compares to the others that are on the market but Barry M and BYS make cheaper alternatives. This polish looks the best when you finish it off with a top coat and I use 2 coats of Seche Vite to get it as smooth as possible plus without a top coat the black can flake off sometimes. It’s applied over OPI Bring on the Bling glitter polish. When you use less then the result looks more like this picture below which is how the polish looks like on one of my toe nails. I applied a bit more product in the photo above which is why there is so much pink visible in between the black. If you use less then the shatter pattern is alot more delicate looking. You can only use one coat and if you use alot then the cracks will be quite thick and you end up with big blocks of black on your nails. ![]() The amount of product you use also really affects how this polish seperates. You also need to make sure that whatever polish you apply it over is completely dry or this will not work properly and sometimes won’t really seperate. First make sure you shake the bottle well because this polish can clump up and I usually have to shake it up after doing a few nails. ![]() This shatter polish can be a little tricky to work with because its success relies on using it under the correct conditions. I’m sure you’ve all seen polishes like this before which seperate as they dry to make a shatter pattern. I bought this about 3 weeks ago and I just keep forgetting to post on it. I looked at my nails again this morning and I thought that it really needed a little something extra so I pulled out my OPI Black Shatter polish. I love this polish because it’s a bright happy colour but for some reason I only ever use it on my toes. I pulled out OPI I’m Indi-a Mood for Love which is a really pretty bright pink. It hit 39 degrees (102 degrees fahrenheit) in Melbourne yesterday and with the sun shining so brightly I felt like it was the perfect day for my NARS Schiap lipstick to make its public debut and I really wanted nails to match. ![]() 8/12/2023 0 Comments Places to go near me for free![]() Find out about all our scared spaces here. Hopefully, cleaning it will set this right. The timegrapher confirms this – the lines aren’t straight, and the watch is gaining. You can see the dirt quite well in this photo. If you click on the photo to enlarge it, you can see that there is quite a lot of dirt. Not for the faint-hearted! Apparently, the Zenith calibre 400 has 280 components, of which 225 are different. This is a highly complex chronograph movement, and you got to get it right. When putting together the watch, I will meticulously follow what the manufacturer prescribed. The hard part is defending the bouncy ball against abduction attempts by my 5 children….įeast your eyes on this! It’s only the top plate assembly as a technical drawing, and what I need here is the oiling chart. If you want to open a watch without risk of scratching, here is a tip I got from Owen Gilchrist – use a small children’s bouncy ball! You just press it against the back and turn it. The case back is as chunky as the rest of the watch. The left sub-dial just has a normal second hand, the middle sub-dial counts the hours the stopwatch has run, and the right sub-dial counts the minutes the stopwatch has run. This is no watch for the faint-hearted, and my wrist wouldn’t take it without additional support □ Apparently, Rolex used this movement in the Daytona, albeit in a modified version that only did 8 bps. Form follows function, and I think that’s right for a chronograph. The movement is only sparsely decorated and fairly plain. Nothing gained for accuracy of the watch, but a stopwatch that can measure 1/10s isn’t to be sniffed at. When measuring time with a stopwatch, you want to be able to account for 1/10 of a second, and the only way to do that is to let the movement beat at such a high rate. ![]() The movement beats at 36,000 bph / 10 bps, and there is a reason for that. But they decided not to, and that may be the “Defy” bit! Zenith make their own movements, which I can only applaud – too many big name watch manufacturers use third-party movements, and Zenith could have easily used an ETA chronograph movement. This is the 1990 model, and it looks like it’s never been serviced before. I now highly recommend Chunky for digital magazine viewing as well. There is one thing the “Defy” does not defy – and that is gravity □ I bought a digital issue and now am able to use all the functions of Chunky to view the pages the way I want to view them versus fighting the app, Zinio is the guilty app. Update: Not only is this simply the best comic reader by far I have now found a new use for this app, as a digital magazine reader. 8/12/2023 0 Comments Play pinochle for free online![]() The person who wrote the program is responsible for the stupid, ignorant, idiotic plays coming from the north jerk. Terrible partner with choices on bids and plays. Passing time playing this game despite the flaws, gives me all I can really expect (especially considering that it is free). Playing errors tend to be more subtle, and fall into two categories, one being feeding points with too high of a card and the other demonstrating no knowledge of suit counts (this may also have contributed to the aforementioned ‘Shoot the Moon’ destruction). I have also passed a perfect ‘Shoot the Moon’ hand and been stunned as partner destroys it with the pass back. only to have partner relinquish too early. I often pass to allow partner to win bid. This also allows me to see some of the most ‘glaring’ flaws (which are in partner bidding and play - though also in passing). This let’s me think through how I would bid ‘without view’ and then bid the best possible play. While there are some frustrating flaws (more on this), I enjoy using a couple of features to “cheat” in a way that allows me to develop a more complete view of bidding and play possibilities. SCORING: If the high bidder fails to make the bid (his team's total meld plus trick points is less than the bid), the bid amount is subtracted from the team score. Each trick has a winner, who gets 1 point per ace, ten or king. TRICKS: Play begins with the high bidder, and proceeds around the table to the left, 4 cards per trick. Pinochle (queen of spades and jack of diamonds) is 4 points, or 30 points for double pinochle (two of each). A run (or straight) in the trump suit is worth 15 points. MELDING: Players get points by showing various card combinations. High bidder names the trump suit for the hand and optionally exchanges cards with her partner. A typical high bid is 35 points (for 48 cards) or 60 (for 80 cards). Players who pass are out of the bidding for that hand. Player to the dealer's left is required to bid, and bidding proceeds to the left. In this version, one human player (South) plays with a computer partner (North) and two computer opponents (West and East).īIDDING: Each player bids the number of points she thinks she can make with her hand. Players score points by melding various card combinations and by taking tricks. The game consists of a repeating sequence of bidding (for the right to name the trump suit and optionally to pass cards), melding, and trick-taking. Pinochle is a card game played with a 48- or 80-card deck of 9s, 10s, jacks, queens, kings and aces. Also available in the App Store is a paid version with NO advertising: Pinochle Gold. Use different colours or different sizes for the two different ions, and don't forget a key. Now all you have to do is put the ions in. To complete the process you will also have to join the mid point of each face (easily found once you've joined the edges) to the mid point of the opposite face. Now the tricky bit! Subdivide this big cube into 8 small cubes by joining the mid point of each edge to the mid point of the edge opposite it. Turn this into a perfect cube by joining the squares together: If you get it wrong, the ions get all tangled up with each other in your final diagram. You might have to practice a bit to get the placement of the two squares right. Now draw an identical square behind this one and offset a bit. The pattern repeats in this way over countless ions. You must remember that this diagram represents only a tiny part of the whole sodium chloride crystal. Sodium chloride is described as being 6:6-co-ordinated. By chance we might just as well have centred the diagram around a chloride ion - that, of course, would be touched by 6 sodium ions. The sodium ion in the centre is being touched by 6 chloride ions. Only those ions joined by lines are actually touching each other. We normally draw an "exploded" version which looks like this: This diagram is easy enough to draw with a computer, but extremely difficult to draw convincingly by hand. If you look at the diagram carefully, you will see that the sodium ions and chloride ions alternate with each other in each of the three dimensions. That is different from, say, a water molecule which always contains exactly 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom - never more and never less.Ī small representative bit of a sodium chloride lattice looks like this: There could be billions of sodium ions and chloride ions packed together, or trillions, or whatever - it simply depends how big the crystal is. It means that you can't state exactly how many ions there are. You should be clear that giant in this context doesn't just mean very large. So sodium chloride (and any other ionic compound) is described as having a giant ionic structure. Compounds like this consist of a giant (endlessly repeating) lattice of ions. Sodium chloride is taken as a typical ionic compound. How the ions are arranged in sodium chloride The structure of a typical ionic solid - sodium chloride It isn't important for understanding this page, however. Note: If you need to revise how ionic bonding arises, then you might like to follow this link. It also explains why caesium chloride has a different structure from sodium chloride even though sodium and caesium are both in Group 1 of the Periodic Table. This gives them a very high hardness but also gives them a low toughness as they can be easily fractured along certain crystal planes. This page explains the relationship between the arrangement of the ions in a typical ionic solid like sodium chloride and its physical properties - melting point, boiling point, brittleness, solubility and electrical behaviour. Unlike ionic and metallic bonding, covalent bonding is directional and as a result, the atoms in many covalently bonded ceramics are arranged symmetrically to give a highly ordered structure. The high energy of covalent bonds makes these ceramics very stable with regard to chemical and thermal changes. The atoms in these ceramics are arranged so that each pair of nearest neighbour atoms forms a chemical bond by sharing a pair of electrons. Covalent bondingĬovalent bonding is found in many ceramic structures such as SiC, BN and diamond. The nature of the ceramic depends on the size of the ion charges and the size of the ions.įor example, the structure shown left is the rock salt structure, such as that for NaCl. The ions pack into a regular arrangement. Atoms have unlike electrical charges, making them ions, which create an electrostatic attraction between atoms. Ionic bonding is found in many ceramic structures such as NaCl, MgO and Al2O3. ![]() 8/11/2023 0 Comments Saturn through telescope 2021![]() ![]() During our Celestron Inspire 100AZ review, we did detect some false color (which we'd expect at this price) and blurring in the field of view.
